A key foreign-policy adviser to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed Thursday with China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi that the two countries will consider realizing a meeting between Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping as bilateral ties improve.
An official accompanying the trip of the Japanese aide, Shotaro Yachi, disclosed the deal to reporters in Beijing.
Yachi and Yang held talks at a time when the two countries are seeking to pave the way for a rare meeting between Abe and Xi early next month on the sidelines of a summit of the Group of 20 major economies.
