Sam Jones suffers ‘nasty’ ankle injury in England training

Sam Jones’ potential England debut could be in doubt after he suffered a “nasty” ankle injury in training.

The Wasps back-row forward, 24, hoped to replace the injured James Haskell for the autumn Tests at Twickenham.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said: “It’s a big blow. Further scans will indicate the extent of the injury.”

It was England’s final training session before coach Eddie Jones names his squad for games against South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia.

“I really feel for Sam, because he has worked so hard to get noticed and he deservedly got his call-up,” said Young.

Leicester’s Mike Williams is England’s other uncapped option to start at openside.
