Kyle Lafferty scored two goals after coming on as a substitute in Northern Ireland’s 4-0 win over San Marino

Kyle Lafferty says Michael O’Neill’s decision not to start him was vindicated as he came off the bench to score two goals in Northern Ireland’s 4-0 World Cup qualifier win over San Marino.

“I think he’s managed it right tonight,” said Lafferty, 29, who has been out of favour at Norwich City this season.

A Steven Davis penalty put Northern Ireland ahead in the 26th minute and Laverty doubled the lead on 78 minutes, with Jamie Ward’s goal then followed by another late Laverty strike.

Lafferty acknowledged that Northern Ireland will face an altogether tougher task in Tuesday’s qualifier against world champions Germany in Hanover.
