Itoje injury adds to England worries before autumn internationals

Maro Itoje

Itoje has been in fine form for England since making his Six Nations debut this year

England forward Maro Itoje is a doubt for the autumn internationals after injuring his right hand in Saracens’ Champions Cup win over Scarlets.

Itoje, 21, was replaced in the 46th minute after his arm was trapped awkwardly while making a tackle.

The lock will undergo an X-ray to assess the extent of the damage.

Should Itoje’s injury prove serious it would be another blow to head coach Eddie Jones, who is already without four forwards because of injury.

Open-side flanker James Haskell will miss all four autumn Tests because of a toe injury, while the Wasps player’s possible replacements – Sam Jones, Mike Williams and Jack Clifford – are also sidelined.

European player of the year Itoje appeared to be the next viable option at flanker for Jones.
