JAKARTA, Sept. 22, Kyodo

Indonesia has caught two Chinese vessels illegally fishing in waters around the Natuna Islands, in the first case of its kind since an arbitration court ruled that Beijing’s claim to almost the entire South China Sea is invalid, Indonesian authorities said on Thursday.

“Recently, police caught two Chinese vessels in Natuna,” said Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, without giving further details.

She said that there have been many foreign vessels carrying out illegal, unreported or unregulated fishing around Natuna, with 30 caught in Indonesian territorial waters in the last six months alone.
