TOKYO, Sept. 22, Kyodo

The Japanese government is concerned about the yen’s recent moves, a senior Finance Ministry official said Thursday after the currency firmed against the U.S. dollar following policy meetings of Japanese and U.S. central banks.

“We are concerned that there are some nervous moves” in the exchange market, said Masatsugu Asakawa, the ministry’s vice minister for international affairs.

“We will take extra precautions to examine developments in the market, and we have no choice but to take necessary steps if speculative moves continue,” Asakawa told reporters.
