European Curling Championships: Eve Muirhead’s Scotland beat Germany

Scotland (left) claimed a hard-fought win over Germany

Leaders Scotland continued their 100% record in the women’s event of the European Curling Championships by beating Germany.

Eve Muirhead’s rink won 8-6 in Glasgow while Sweden are now ahead of Czech Republic after beating them 8-5.

Russia beat Norway, Italy lost out to Denmark while Switzerland defeated Finland in close contests.

In the men’s event, Scotland were beaten by Finland to remain joint fourth in the standings.

Tom Brewster’s rink have three wins and three defeats following their 6-5 loss as Finland got their first victory.

Switzerland beat Italy 8-5, while joint leaders Sweden also won, overcoming Russia 7-3.

Norway, who are now second, lost narrowly to Germany and Austria comfortably beat Denmark.

The Austrians, Italians and Russians join Scotland in mid-table, with the seventh set of round-robin fixtures taking place on Tuesday evening.

The Scots take on Alexander Baumann’s Germany at Braehead Arena.
