Casey and Laird in contention in rain-hit Napa

Paul Casey

Paul Casey is ranked 12th in the world

British pair Paul Casey and Martin Laird are well placed as rain delayed the third round of the Safeway Open in California.

Play was halted with the final group on the 16th hole and is scheduled to resume on Sunday at 15:40 BST followed by the fourth and final round.

USA’s Johnson Wagner leads on 15 under par after 15 holes with England’s Casey two shots back, despite a double bogey on the fifth in Napa Valley.

Scotland’s Laird is 12 under after 16.

American Michael Kim carded a seven-under par 65 to share the clubhouse lead with compatriot Brendan Steele on 11 under and five-time major winner and compatriot Phil Mickelson nine under.

Starting times for the fourth round have been moved as more rain is forecast on Sunday afternoon.
