Britain’s show jumping Olympic gold medallist Nick Skelton won the best athlete prize at the prestigious FEI Awards in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Skelton, who won a team gold at London 2012, collected an individual gold during his seventh Games when riding Big Star in Rio this summer.

“I’ve had an incredible year and this award makes it even better,” said Skelton, 58.

Skelton’s groom, Mark Beever, was awarded the best groom prize.
